Petite Foret: Bringing the Enchanting Forest Indoors

An Immersive Wedding Banquet Hall

Humans' yearning for nature has never stopped. Nature can give human beings calm and energy. Wearing a white veil to marry a prince in a forest, or attending a banquet gracefully in a forest, is out of reach for most people. The wedding scene in the movie "Twilight" makes people yearn for it. So, why can't we move nature into a comfortable interior space? Really smell the pine branches, touch the bushes, and have a natural scent in a space where you don't have to worry about anything else.

A bold spatial art attempt to bring a forest indoors, Petite Foret is a wedding banquet hall that breaks the boundaries of traditional design. Designed by Wei Zhang, this immersive space transports guests into a magical forest, creating a unique and unforgettable experience. Nature is the origin of our humanity and civilization, and Petite Foret aims to integrate important life moments, such as weddings, with the beauty of nature.

The core technology behind Petite Foret lies in the use of real materials from nature. The art exhibition features different kinds of tall trees, low shrubs, grasses, and other flora, all meticulously selected to recreate the enchanting ambiance of a forest. The mini forest, main forest, and background forest come together to form a harmonious composition, composed of 20 different species of trees and bushes. The result is a space that feels like stepping into a real forest, complete with the scent of pine and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot.

Stepping into Petite Foret is a truly immersive experience. The natural materials not only create a visual spectacle but also engage the senses. Guests can walk on the soft turf, feel the rough bark of the trees, and breathe in the fresh forest air. The fragrance of the forest fills the space, transporting visitors away from the concrete jungle of the city. It's a moment of tranquility and connection with nature, allowing time to stand still.

Petite Foret was officially unveiled on September 22, 2018, at the Rosewood Hotel in Beijing. Since then, it has attracted over 400 visitors who have marveled at the unique design and experienced a brief escape from the city. The project aims to awaken the resonance of nature and the universe in the depths of the soul, reminding us of our inherent connection to the natural world.

Wei Zhang's Petite Foret has been recognized for its creativity and ingenuity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Event and Happening Design category in 2022. This prestigious award honors designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements.

Petite Foret is not just a wedding banquet hall; it's a testament to our longing for nature and a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural environment. It invites us to embrace the beauty of the forest and carry it in our hearts, even in the midst of the urban landscape.
